Micromax Canvas Selfie Review

The Micromax Canvas Selfie is a smartphone that is basically focused on delivering a rich camera experience by providing two cameras rated at 13MP each. Both the primary and secondary cameras offer the autofocus feature, and the phone has a dedicated image taking button placed on the right side. For the primary camera at the back of the phone, there are 2 LED flashlights while the secondary camera has a single LED flashlight. The high-quality cameras have a LARGAN lens and Sony sensor and are also armed with a number of different picture editing options.

Design

The unibody design of the Micromax Canvas Selfie means that it is not possible to open the back and get access to the battery. Hence, the SIM and micro SD slots are located on the right side. A pin has been attached to the phone, and it can be used for ejecting the tray. A camera button is also placed on the right side, and long pressing the button launches the camera app. Initially, you may be confused with the camera and power button, however, you will get used to the arrangement after regular use.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie also has a different design from other phones as both the top as well as the bottom sides have been curved, giving the device a sleek, unique look. The back side of the device has a faux-leather stitched design that provides a decent grip. On the back are also the 2 LED flashlights on the sides of the primary camera.

Since the speaker has been positioned at the back side with a single speaker grill, the sound may get muffled when you put it flat on a table. Thus, if you need to watch a video or movie, you need to hold the phone in your hands.

Display

The Micromax Canvas Selfie offers a huge 4.7 inch screen though it appears even bigger due to the surrounding bezel. The display offers a wide viewing angle with decent brightness levels for both indoor and outdoor use. As the screen does not come with Gorilla Glass, it is good to have a screen guard or screen protector to avoid ruining the display with regular daily usage.

Camera

Obviously the best part about the Micromax Canvas Selfie is the two 13MP cameras. The photos taken using both cameras are very clear, and there are inbuilt beauty features for taking selfies, such as skin whitening, smoothening skin, face slimming, oil removal and teeth whitening among many others. There is also an extra editing feature that assists in beautifying the images using make up options like blush, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and eye shadow among others.

However, it is not only the various editing options that make the cameras on the Micromax Canvas Selfie great. Having a 13MP front camera with the autofocus feature makes it a stronger contender for the best selfie phone ever created. It also reproduces colours nicely for both indoor and outdoor use.

Performance

The performance of the Micromax Canvas Selfie is quite good as it has a 1.7GHz Octa core processor, dedicated GPU and a huge RAM of 2GB. The device also comes with 16GB internal memory and out of that; 12GB is usable. An additional expandable slot can support up to 32GB. You can also use external storage options such as pen drives that are usable through USB OTG cables.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie also runs the 4.4.2 Kitkat version, rather than the latest Lollipop software. In addition, the device uses a modified UI where all apps are found on the various home pages. The large 2GB RAM in the device supports 3D games and also ensures a fast performance when doing other functions on the device.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie has a non-removable 2300mAh battery that provides a decent supply of power to last you throughout the day. For example, it only consumes just 25% of the total charge when watching a 2 hour and 30 minutes video, provided that location services, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned off. Additionally, with a brightness of 50% you can easily watch three movies of about 2 hours and 30 minutes each before even needing to get another recharge.

As expected, during gaming, the Micromax Canvas Selfie loses charge quite quickly. This is especially when playing high-end games that have complex graphics and use up more RAM. Thus, if you want to play high-quality games, you may need to ensure you have your charger close with you.

Connectivity

The Micromax Canvas Selfie offers a single SIM slot; however, it does not support 4G connectivity, which may disappoint some but not all users. It also has the normal Bluetooth, micro USB port and Wi-Fi. GPS is also included for navigation.

Overall, the Micromax Canvas Selfie is an amazing phone with two great cameras, fast performance and a sleek appearance.
